Knook Giveaway Winner!

Thanks to everyone who visited my blog last month during the Tour Through Crochet Country.  I enjoyed following along with Crochetville and visiting crochet blogs that I had never seen before.  It was really interesting to see that there is variety in what people are doing with crochet — lots of different techniques and career choices.

I especially want to thank everyone who left comments about what you did for NatCroMo on my blog the day it was featured during the tour.  I used the Random Number Generator to choose the recipient of the Knook Beginner Set – Medium Weight Yarn, and the number selected is:

Number 7Congrats to Janet, the seventh person to leave a comment!  Janet, please send me an email with your contact information so I can get this to you.

Also, for Janet and the other ten people who left comments, I am giving you a free pattern that is not available online and 15% off patterns in my Ravelry store.  Two new patterns are being added soon!  Contact me to get the discount code (code expires 5/5/13).

I am already thinking about what types of fun things I can add for NatCroMo 2014.  I already know I definitely want to do more giveaways.

Day 31: A Tour Through Crochet Country

Today is Day 31 of Crochetville’s A Tour through Crochet Country, and and the featured bloggers are Karen C K Ballard and Gwen Blakely-Kinsler.

Karen is a crochet designer who loves to crochet jewelry, 3D and freeform designs, and historic patterns.  She is a CGOA professional who designs and writes.  Karen also is a junior reviewer of CGOA Masters program candidates’ portfolios.  Her NC Necklace won 1st place in the 2012 CGOA Design Contest in the Small Wonders category.  Would you like to win a collection of vintage antique tools?  Friend Karen on Facebook with the message “NatCroMo” by April 14, and she will enter you to win this prize.

Gwen is the founder, former President, and Lifetime Member of the Crochet Guild of America.  She currently serves as the Editor of Annie’s “Talking Crochet” newsletter.  In anticipation of the CGOA’s 20th anniversary in 2014, Gwen wrote A Narrative History of CGOA, which explains how everything all began with her writing a letter.  Her newest book, The Fine Art of Crochet – Innovative Works from 20 Contemporary Artists, is scheduled for release in June 2013.

This is the final day of the Tour.  I have enjoyed visiting all these blogs and being introduced to new crocheters, and I hope the tour momentum continues to grow.

Day 30: A Tour Through Crochet Country

Today is Day 30 of Crochetville’s A Tour through Crochet Country, and and the featured bloggers are Linda Dean and Kristin Dragos.

Linda is an Associate Professional member of CGOA.  She is a long-time crocheter who has recently starting publishing her designs.  Linda is also a winner of the 2012 CGOA Design Contest in the Accessories Category for her Vineyard at Dawn Shawl.  Linda is sharing her Tunisian Mini Shawl pattern in tribute to those who have encouraged her on her crochet journey, and as if that is great enough, she is also giving away one skein of Lisa Souza’s Glazier yarn to three winners.  Please visit her blog and leave a comment before April 2 to be entered.

Although Kristin learned to crochet in 2008, she has accomplished a great deal.  She has become a CYCA certified instructor and is now completing the CGOA Masters program.  Kristin is also a crochet instructor, and she self-publishes her own patterns.  Have you ever crocheted with tulle?  To be honest, I’d never thought about it, but after seeing Kristin’s Crochet and Tulle Bracelet Tutorial, my head is swimming with ideas.

Tomorrow’s featured designers are Karen C K Ballard and Gwen Blakely-Kinsler.

Day 29: A Tour Through Crochet Country

Today is Day 29 of Crochetville’s A Tour through Crochet Country, and today’s stop on the tour is with the co-owners of Crochetville, Amy Shelton and Donna Hulka.

Amy has followed in the footsteps of her grandmother and mother by continuing the crochet traditions of her family, and the legacy continues through her daughter, who also crochets.  She is a Professional member of the CGOA, and was the keynote speaker for CGOA Professional Development Day in 2008.  Amy is also a CGOA board member, and served as President.  When she is not seeking out new experiences to bring to Crochetville, Amy enjoys crocheting charity projects with her women’s group, crafting, and reading.  Hurry and download Amy’s Hexagon Lapghan, which she has made available as a free download until April 5.

Donna is a co-owner of Crochetville and a crochet designer.  Her designs can be seen in books like The New Crochet: 40 Wonderful Wearables and publications such as Crochet! magazine.  Donna had been publishing her own designs since 2004.  Donna is giving away an original Jimbo, hand-whittled crochet hook.  All entries must be received by April 6 in order to qualify.  Visit the Crochetville blog and leave a comment answering her question to be included in the giveaway.

Tomorrow’s featured designers are Linda Dean and Kristin Dragos.

Day 28: A Tour Through Crochet Country

Today is Day 28 of Crochetville’s A Tour through Crochet Country, and the featured bloggers are Kathy White and Lori Carlson.

Kathryn is an extraordinary bead and thread lace crocheter.  I was awestruck the first time I saw her crocheted beaded purses.  Kathryn is a Professional member of the CGOA, and she designs and publishes her crochet patterns on her website.  Her work has been published by Annies, CGOA, and magazines like Crochet World.  Today she is sharing her Poppin Popcorn Headband on her blog today so be sure to stop by and scoop up this great free pattern.  Kathryn also has other free patterns on her website.  My goal is to find time to make one of her beaded bags. I am in love with her Cleo bag.

Lori is also a thread and lace crocheter, and she is a mentee of Kathryn White.  She is fascinated with exploring different circular forms such as mandalas, spirographs, etc. and translating them into crochet.  Lori is an Associate Professional CGOA member.  Her Split Infinitive design was the 2nd place winner of CGOA Design Competition in the Artistic Expressions category.  Lori is looking forward to sharing her upcoming designs which will be published this summer.

Tomorrow’s featured designers are Amy Shelton and Donna Hulka.

Today is Day 27 of Crochetville’s A Tour through Crochet Country, and the featured bloggers are Marie Segares and Brenda Stratton.

Marie is a Professional CGOA member, and she is a crochet/knit designer, teacher, and blogger.  Having benefited from the CGOA mentoring program, Marie now pays it forward by mentoring another designer.  She also writes book reviews for the CGOA newsletter.  You can find Marie’s patterns in publications such as Crochet World and Inside Crochet magazines and also on her blog and Ravelry page.  Marie’s free download of her Rectangular Squares Blanket was created as an option for crocheters who are looking for patterns to make their Project Night Night donations.

Brenda has been crocheting professionally since the 1980s, and her work has appeared in many magazines, books, leaflets, kits, and on television.  She has also served as editor of several publications, including Crochet! magazine.  Brenda is currently a freelance crochet designer who creates designs for publications and yarn companies, and she has designed a pattern for cute Rainbow Bright Jar Cozies that will brighten up your office this Spring.

Day 26: A Tour Through Crochet Country

Today is Day 26 of Crochetville’s A Tour through Crochet Country, and the featured bloggers are Susan Lowman and Michele Maks.

I originally blogged about Susan and her role with the CGOA, but in addition to co-chairing the CGOA Masters Program, Susan creates amazing and colorful crochet designs.  She is also a tech editor and instructor who teaches locally and at the CGOA national conferences.  She crochets all types of projects including garments, accessories, toys, filet, and lace.

Michele is the former editor of Crochet World magazine.  I was fortunate to work with Michele on two of my patterns.  She was actually one of the first editors to accept my designs when I was new to the game.  Michele has been a crochet and knit designer for many years, and she is now learning how to get past her previous workaholic tendencies and to embrace a more Zen-like lifestyle while living with MS.  Please visit her blog for her three Deecie blanket patterns which are perfect for Project Night Night.

Tomorrow’s featured designers are Marie Segares and Brenda Stratton.

Day 25: A Tour Through Crochet Country

Today is Day 25 of Crochetville’s A Tour through Crochet Country, and the featured bloggers are Kim Guzman and Susan Huxley.

Kim has always been very open about sharing her techniques and methods, and she has been teaching crochet online since long before the days of video and streaming.  I remember taking a class with Kim in a chat room where we had to type “1” whenever we completed a step.  I admire Kim because she has been able to support herself and her family from crochet.  She hasn’t always portrayed it as easy, but she has done it and continues to do it.  Kim is sharing a free pattern for her Tunisian Mock Cable scarf, along with a companion video.  Visit her blog to get this pattern.

Susan Huxley has written several crochet and sewing books over the years which explore various techniques such as sweater design and serger techniques.  She currently works in her personal studio as a freelance editor and designer.  In addition to her published works, here patterns are available on Ravelry.  She also teaches and lectures around the country.

Tomorrow’s featured designers are Susan Lowman and Michele Maks.

Day 24: A Tour Through Crochet Country

Today is Day 24 of Crochetville’s A Tour through Crochet Country, and the featured bloggers are Bonnie Barker and Marcy Smith for CGOA.

Bonnie has been crocheting for a while, but only recently started submitting her designs for publications.  Her adventures into design began with her sending photos of her county fair-winning afghans to Leisure Arts, who offered her a contract to create patterns based on those afghans.  She is also a CYCA Certified Instructor.  Bonnie’s Dubonet Poncho is available as a free downloadable pattern for Spring.

We all know Marcy as the Editor of Interweave Crochet magazine, but she is also a new CGOA board member.  Her designs have appeared in Interweave publications and in The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Crochet.  Marcy is spending her days promoting the benefits of attending the Chain Link conferences this year.  I have not been fortunate to attend one yet.  Maybe this year.

Tomorrow’s featured designers are Kim Guzman and Susan Huxley.
